What We Install
Access control system installation starts with the right hardware matched to your environment, and ends with a system your team can manage without calling for help every time someone needs a badge re-keyed. At GotUWired, we design and install commercial access control from single-door offices to multi-building campuses with hundreds of credential holders.
Verkada Access Control is our primary platform for new installations. Verkada’s cloud-managed door controllers pair with their AC41 and AC42 series readers to deliver real-time door events, remote unlock, and automatic software updates, all from a browser or mobile app. Because Verkada unifies access control and video surveillance on a single dashboard, facility managers eliminate the gap between “who swiped in?” and “what did the camera see?” GotUWired is a Verkada Preferred Partner, meaning our technicians are trained and certified directly by Verkada on installation methodology and ongoing support.
For environments with existing legacy infrastructure (Kantech, Continental Access, HID, Doorking, Bosch, or Linear), we offer parallel upgrades that reuse your current cabling and strikes wherever code allows, protecting prior investment while adding cloud management and modern credential types (mobile, PIN, biometric).
Our installation methodology follows a four-step process:
- Site survey & door schedule: We map every door, gate, and elevator cab that needs control, note rough-in requirements, and build a door-by-door deployment plan with quantities, cable runs, and credential tier for each portal.
- Low-voltage rough-in: Our C-7 licensed low-voltage technicians run Cat5e/Cat6 or 18/2 to each reader position, terminating at a centralized panel or distributed sub-panels depending on floor count.
- Hardware installation: Readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, request-to-exit devices, and door contacts installed per manufacturer specs and AHJ requirements.
- Commissioning & credential setup: System programmed, doors tested, user credentials enrolled, admin training delivered before we leave the site.
Whether you need a single access-controlled entrance or an enterprise rollout across 40 doors, we scope the project to match your security posture, your budget, and your maintenance capacity.

Industries We Serve
Access control requirements differ significantly by industry. What a biotech R&D facility needs at a server room door is not what a school needs at a main entrance. GotUWired installs access control systems across commercial sectors throughout San Diego and Southern California.
Commercial office & professional services: Multi-tenant buildings, executive suites, and co-working campuses rely on credential-based access to protect sensitive client data and control after-hours entry. We integrate with property management systems and provide sub-tenant credential management so each tenant controls their own doors without touching anyone else’s.
Healthcare & life sciences: Pharmacies, medical offices, and biotech labs in Carlsbad, La Jolla, and throughout San Diego County require access tiering that maps to HIPAA physical-safeguard requirements. We design systems with audit-log retention and alarm integration for controlled-substance storage rooms and server closets.
Education (K-12 and higher ed): California school safety guidance calls for rapid lockdown capability and visitor management. We install access-controlled vestibule entries with camera integration so front office staff can verify visitors before unlocking the inner door.
Warehouse & logistics: High-turnover environments need low-friction credential management. We deploy mobile credential systems and integrate with HR platforms so badge access provisioning is tied to employee onboarding and automatic deprovisioning is triggered on termination.
Government & public sector: We hold the security clearances and insurance requirements to serve municipal, county, and federal facilities in the San Diego metro. FICAM-compatible hardware and audit logging available.
Sample Projects
The best way to evaluate a low-voltage integrator is to examine the work. Below are three representative access control system installation projects completed by GotUWired.
Biotech R&D Campus, Carlsbad, CA
A life-sciences company with three connected buildings needed to replace an aging Continental Access system that had no cloud management, required on-premises software, and could not be remotely unlocked. GotUWired replaced 22 doors with Verkada AC42 readers and cloud controllers over two weekends with zero business disruption. Post-installation, the facilities manager reduced badge administration time from 4 hours per week to under 30 minutes, managed from any browser.
Multi-Tenant Professional Office, San Diego Downtown
A commercial property management firm managing six suites across two floors needed a system that gave each tenant admin rights over their own doors without cross-tenant visibility. We installed Verkada’s multi-organization architecture with a master property-manager account and five tenant sub-accounts. Property management retained override rights; tenants self-managed daily operations. Total door count: 14.
Warehouse & Distribution Center, Chula Vista, CA
A regional logistics operator needed access logging tied to shift schedules to validate workers’ comp and liability claims. We installed Verkada door controllers at 8 entry/exit points with time-based credential rules and integrated the door-event feed into their existing HR system via Verkada’s API. Real-time occupancy reporting was live within 72 hours of final commissioning.
Certifications & Partner Status
When you evaluate access control installers, credentials signal more than competence. They signal accountability. GotUWired holds the licenses and partnerships that protect you if something goes wrong.
Verkada Preferred Partner: GotUWired is one of a limited number of integrators in San Diego County to hold Preferred Partner status with Verkada. This designation requires factory training on installation methodology, a demonstrated customer-satisfaction track record, and ongoing certification renewal as Verkada releases new hardware generations. Preferred Partners also receive direct Verkada engineering support for complex deployments.
C-7 Low-Voltage Electrical License (California): All wire runs, terminations, and panel work performed on your site are executed by C-7 licensed technicians. This matters because unlicensed low-voltage work is not insurable and can create liability exposure if a door fails during an emergency egress event.
Manufacturer affiliations: In addition to Verkada, GotUWired is an authorized dealer and service partner for HID Global, DoorKing, Bosch Security, and Medeco high-security lock cylinders.
Insurance: GotUWired carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance provided upon request before any work begins.

FAQs
How much does it cost to install an access control system?
Access control system installation costs depend on door count, hardware tier, and cabling requirements. A single-door commercial installation using Verkada hardware typically runs $1,500 to $3,500 installed. A 10-door office with new cabling and cloud management commonly falls in the $12,000 to $25,000 range. GotUWired provides itemized written proposals. Call 858.999.2031 or request a quote online for a project-specific estimate.
How do you install an access control system?
Installation follows four phases: (1) site survey and door schedule to map every controlled entry point, (2) low-voltage rough-in to run cabling from reader locations to control panels, (3) hardware installation of readers, electric strikes or magnetic locks, and request-to-exit devices, and (4) commissioning: system programming, credential enrollment, and admin training. Most commercial projects are completed within one to three days on-site.
What are the three golden rules of access control?
The three principles guiding sound access control design are: (1) need-to-know, where credential access should be granted only when operationally required, not by default; (2) least privilege, where users get access to the minimum set of doors required for their role; and (3) audit trail, where every door event should be logged with timestamp and credential ID so incidents can be reconstructed. GotUWired’s Verkada-based systems enforce all three automatically.
What is the main purpose of an access control system?
An access control system serves three functions: physical security (preventing unauthorized entry), operational accountability (logging who entered where and when), and emergency management (enabling rapid lockdown or remote unlock during incidents). In commercial environments, access control also supports compliance with regulations such as HIPAA physical-safeguard requirements for healthcare facilities.
Do I need a licensed contractor to install access control?
In California, commercial access control installation involving low-voltage wiring requires a C-7 Low-Voltage Systems Contractor license. Unlicensed installation creates potential liability if a door failure leads to a safety or security incident. GotUWired holds an active C-7 license and all technicians are manufacturer-certified. Certificates of insurance and license numbers are provided before any project begins.
